Technical Product Owner

The role of the Technical Product Owner is to serve as a cross-functional leader across the business teams and the Data Engineering and Enterprise BI team to assert proper product delivery and for products to stay at the forefront of staffing industry needs. The Product Owner “owns” one product and acts as the business representative to the technical team while representing the team to the business. This role works with leadership teams, business, engineering, developers, clients, and other stakeholders to ensure software development and Data Engineering and Enterprise Business Intelligence efforts are in-line with overall product strategies and goals. This person is an influencer and thought leader and possesses the in-depth project leadership expertise and credibility to provide detailed guidance to the implementation team.

The Technical Product Owner works closely with Product Managers and Data Engineering leadership to engage end users and understand their needs. This person carries technical knowledge into strategic conversations about the Enterprise Data warehouse and Business Intelligence products. Working in this role is about creating and grooming their products backlog, maintaining technical and business requirements and defining the necessary artifacts for the technical/development team.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Product Managers and stakeholders to understand the problems they are trying to solve, and the business value associated with resolving those problems.
  • Breaks complex ideas into Epic and User Stories required to deliver business value and ensure alignment with the technical delivery team on what success looks like.
  • Provides vision, success criteria, and direction to the Agile delivery team and key stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Actively leads discussions to identify ways to iterate on ideas to improve upon results or design.
  • Attends internal/external meetings that apply to products and document/communicate information with teams.
  • Aligns with internal teams to understand product technology needs in the event internal features or enhancements are needed.
  • Attends scrum meetings including daily scrum, retrospectives, planning, and grooming sessions.
  • Leads backlog grooming to decompose/estimate stories.
  • Creates mockups to help visualize requirements using various tools (Excel, Lucidchart, etc.)
  • Answers questions from developers, clarifies requirements, etc.
  • Demonstrates latest iteration to customers (pre-release) and gathers feedback.

Requirements

  • 5+ year’s experience in technical business analysis, actively participating in all Scrum related events as the Product Owner, offering business insight and clarification, removing impediments, and making real-time decisions as needed.
  • Ability to translate high level topics to a technical level and back.
  • Extensive experience writing requirements in the form of user stories and related acceptance criteria.
  • High level understanding of Data warehousing and Business Intelligence technology and how it applies to Data visualization software.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, etc.
  • Ability to collaborate, build relationships with, and influence across organizations at all levels.
  • Disciplined in working backward from the customer to create a solution.
  • Preferred knowledge of AWS Cloud technologies i.e. VPC, S3, RedShift, SNS/SQS, and DMS.
  • Preferred knowledge or experience as a data analyst.
